Mais voilà que pour contrer cette épidémie pernicieuse, on vient d’associer le Web sémantique à la version 3.0 du Web. Voir article sur Wikipedia. Bonne idée? Pas sûr. Le simple fait de donner des numéros de version au terme Web implique une amélioration commerciale et non une évolution de la technologie. Les gens achètent les nouvelles versions… dans le cas du Web, ils doivent d’abord les faire! Si on veut être précis, il faudrait dire Web-2 v. 0.1a.

Du gigantesque catalogue qu'il est, le web pourrait se transformer pour apporter des réponses complètes à des requêtes en langage naturel, et favoriser l’émergence de nouvelles formes d'intelligence collective. Certains l'appellent le "web 3.0".

In this paper, we present our work aimed at improving retrieval and navigation services on bibliographic data. In this system, knowledge about the domain of documents (publications) is stored in an ontology, a formal model of conceptual knowledge. The ontology is employed to represent concepts and their relationships in order to carry out reasoning about documents. Reasoning helps researchers by providing more efficient document retrieval and navigation.

The XHTML Role Attribute defined in this specification allows the author to annotate XML Languages with machine-extractable semantic information about the purpose of an element.

Users and software agents should be able to discover, invoke, compose, and monitor Web resources offering particular services and having particular properties, and should be able to do so with a high degree of automation if desired. Powerful tools should be enabled by service descriptions, across the Web service lifecycle. OWL-S (formerly DAML-S) is an ontology of services that makes these functionalities possible. In this submission we describe the overall structure of the ontology and its three main parts: the service profile for advertising and discovering services; the process model, which gives a detailed description of a service's operation; and the grounding, which provides details on how to interoperate with a service, via messages.

Series of three one-page summaries for those new to SIOC

PingtheSemanticWeb.com is a web service archiving the location of recently created/updated FOAF, DOAP or SIOC RDF documents on the Web. If one of those documents is updated, its author can notify the service that the document have been updated by pinging it with the URL of the document. PingtheSemanticWeb.com is used by crawlers or other type of software agents to know when and where the latest updated FOAF, DOAP and SIOC documents can be found. So it requests a list of recently updated documents as a starting location to crawl the semantic web.
